Concerto for Diatonic Harmonica & Orchestra
Signed CD Download
This classical album contains 3 unique pieces of music:
The Concerto is the first true concerto composed for diatonic harmonica. It is full of tuneful melodies, virtuosic solo passages, and lush string writing. Unlike other harmonica concerto, all composed for chromatic harmonica, this Concerto was composed by Howard to perform himself, utilizing the revolutionary diatonic harmonica techniques which he developed. It has 3 movements, an improvised cadenza, and several improvised sections, which makes each live performance unique.
The chamber suite "Harmonia Mundi" is a highly eclectic confluence of world music, jazz, and classical styles. The adventurous harmonica part is complimented by virtuosic parts for the other instruments. This recording is the premier (and by far the best) performance of the piece.
Astor Piazzolla's "Café 1930" was originally composed for flute and guitar. This is the first time it has ever been played on diatonic harmonica and marimba.
"Concerto for Diatonic Harmonica & Orchestra"- recorded with The Czech National Symphony, conducted by Paul Freeman
"Harmonia Mundi"- recorded with The Rembrandt Chamber Players
"Café 1930"- recorded with Dane Richeson (Marimba)
All compositions by Howard Levy (except "Café 1930").
